Recovery Month at CARITAS
Recovery Month at CARITAS
Recovery month is a time for us to both celebrate the important work we’ve accomplished and reflect on the challenging work ahead of us. Since 2005, The Healing Place has been providing our long-term peer-driven residential recovery program to the Greater Richmond community. Here, men and women suffering from substance use disorder carve pathways to sobriety, employment, and spiritual wellness. The Healing Place program includes a workforce development program, a transitional sober living community, and an active Alumni Association to support lifelong sobriety.
This month is special because we will celebrate our very first female alumnae who will be honored at our annual Alumni Ceremony (details below). We welcomed our first women into The Healing Place in 2020 thanks to support from people like you. We are so proud of our first female participants and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.
The challenges ahead for our recovery work remain, though. Drug overdose deaths in the United States spiked during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recent estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that more than 105,000 lives were lost in 2021, up from nearly 92,000 lives lost in 2020. In Virginia, 1,478 men and women died from an overdose in 2021. Our work is far from over, but you can help us save more lives.
