You may change a life, and your life may be changed forever.
CARITAS volunteers serve those experiencing homelessness and facing addiction in Richmond by working through the CARITAS Shelter, Furniture Bank, Works Program, and The Healing Place.
Volunteers are welcome to serve once a week or more. Flexible and meaningful opportunities are available. Individual volunteers assist during all hours of operation. T-F 9 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Our volunteer program outlines as follows:
Shelter - Make an enormous difference in your community by becoming a host congregation. Each hosting congregation recruits, trains and schedules its volunteers internally. From time to time, a hosting congregation requests outside support from smaller "helper" congregations interested in partnering with others to put on a host week, spend time providing ameal, getting guests to showers, helping with laundry, and general hospitality.
Contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 887-1595 to host shelter with CARITAS.
Furniture Bank - Numerous opportunities exist for on-site volunteers to shop with clients help prepare for the Gathered Goods Marketplace, or sort incoming donations on Tuesday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. We ask that you attend a "Connect with CARITAS" orientation which is offered every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at CARITAS, 1125 Commerce Road, Richmond 23224. We welcome on-site volunteers aged 16 and older, with underage volunteers aged 16 and 17 providing adult supervision (one adult per five minors). Groups are also welcome on selected weekday afternoons - please call (804) 343-5008 for available times.
We are open for individual volunteers one Saturday each month from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Visit HandsOn Greater Richmond to sign up. We also host one volunteer group on that Open Saturday. Please call (804) 343-5008 for availability.
Corporate, civic and other groups are encouraged to volunteer with us; we offer many rewarding opportunities for teams. Learn about our Dresser/Table Build project.
Off-site volunteers of any age can host a drive to collect gently used household items (pillows, linens, towels, dishes, pots/pans, etc....) and deliver them to the Furniture Bank warehouse where they will be distributed to the formerly homeless community. There are also plenty of group opportunities at the Furniture Bank.
