CARITAS provides emergency shelter to 1/3 of Richmond’s homeless population. 76.6% of adults experiencing homelessness in Richmond are men, many of whom face enormous challenges to stability including addiction and criminal histories.
Through our congregational partnerships, CARITAS offers our single male clients a loving and supportive path back to stability and our congregational hosts the opportunity to see past the largely inaccurate stereotypes falsely characterizing many of our most vulnerable neighbors.
As a provider of emergency shelter and the largest homeless services provider in Richmond, CARITAS operates in a larger system that aims to connect individuals and households with long-term housing options. At CARITAS, we believe that there are permanent housing solutions for everyone. Through our case management program, clients receive guidance in applying for and securing permanent housing. The goal is for case managers to empower clients to acquire housing and to continue to connect clients with services that will enable them to maintain their housing.
